. . .You have magnified Your word above all Your name.
Psalm 138:2 NKJV

1. Creation
WHO GOD IS
Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
God is the Creator
WHAT GOD DOES
Acts 17:24-28 God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. 25 Nor is He worshiped with men's hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things. 26 And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, 27 so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; 28 for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, 'For we are also His offspring.'
Creates
God, who made the world and everything in it
And He has made from one blood every nation of men
Controls His Creation
He is Lord of heaven and earth
He has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings
Continues His Creation
He gives to all life, breath and all things
In Him we live and move and have our being
HOW GOD WORKS
Psalms 33:9 For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.
Hebrews 11:3 By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.
God spoke His creation into existence
GOD’S PURPOSE
Genesis 1:26 “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness. . .”
Acts 17:26-27 And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, 27 so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us;
Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
God created mankind (male and female) in His own image in order to have relationship and fellowship with them as their Creator.
APPLICATION
Trust or faith in God the Creator is essential
Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Hebrews 11:3 By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.
Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
We must decide at the beginning of the Bible who God is. Genesis is important for shaping our view and concept of God. Does He exist? What did He do? How did He do it? What was His purpose?
The God of the Bible. . .
Exists – He is a real, personal, divine, sovereign being
Created – to deny creation is to deny the God of the Bible
Invites our relationship & fellowship
God gave to humans responsibility (subdue and have dominion) and relationship (with God and other humans).
The Bible is the record of God’s relationship with humans; not the other elements of His creation.
Is worthy of our worship
Revelation 4:11 "You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created."
To whom then will you liken God?
Isaiah 40:12-18
NKJV
Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, Measured heaven with a span And calculated the dust of the earth in a measure? Weighed the mountains in scales And the hills in a balance? Who has directed the Spirit of the LORD, Or as His counselor has taught Him? With whom did He take counsel, and who instructed Him, And taught Him in the path of justice? Who taught Him knowledge, And showed Him the way of understanding? Behold, the nations are as a drop in a bucket, And are counted as the small dust on the scales; Look, He lifts up the isles as a very little thing. And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, Nor its beasts sufficient for a burnt offering. All nations before Him are as nothing, And they are counted by Him less than nothing and worthless. To whom then will you liken God? Or what likeness will you compare to Him?
